A trick-taking game where you play ranks and suits on separate cards. Best played 2v2!

In Lunar, you'll have to play cleverly and have chemistry with your teammate to succeed.

Lunar is a quick-playing, trick-taking game for two or four players in which players combine the phases of the moon and nocturnal animals to form cards played into tricks, which are combined to determine their value within each trick.

Each round consists of twelve tricks played, and at the end of each round, a score is awarded based on the number of tricks and cards acquired. Once one player (or team) reaches 30 points, the game ends, and the side with the most points wins!

How to Play

  1. Partner Up and Sit Across From Each Other
Lunar plays great as a 2v2 game. Sit across from each other, alternating players from each team.
  2. Play A Suit Card or Number Card
If you lead, you can play anything.
  3. Partner Plays A Card To Pair It With
Play goes clockwise. The first suit played is the lead suit, and you must follow (if able). Your team’s cards combine to create a “complete” card.
  4. Work Together To Win The Right Number of Tricks!
Win 1-3 or 7-8 tricks out of 12 hands to get ten points. If you fail, you won’t gain as many points. Play ends when a team reaches 30 points!

Strategy

Leverage Your Turn Advantages

Leading with a suit can be very advantageous, depending on the cards in players’ hands. Don’t forget that if the first player plays a rank card and you’re next, you get to choose the lead suit!

Starred Cards Make A Difference

In addition to going for a specific number of tricks, don’t forget about the cards with stars on them. If you win tricks with them included, you’ll get bonus points.

On Determining The Trump Suit

The game begins as soon as cards are dealt! First, players must determine the trump by removing one suit at a time. See which one your opponents and teammate choose and use that information!

What People Are Saying

"Really tense team trick taker. Solid keeper in a genre that's a bit flooded right now."
— Taylor’s Trick-Taking Table
