A card game in which players survive in the late 16th century European courts through betting and bluffing.

Regine is a strategic card game of betting and bluffing set in a late 16th century European court, where your goal is to be the first to reach 31 points.

The gameplay is simple yet strategic. In Regine, players constantly interact with each other and most card effects affect the opponent's hand. You must earn points while aiming for the best card combinations, but it may be difficult to fully control your hand.

The rules of the game are easy to understand thanks to the intuitive card design. Some of the rules will be familiar to those who have played Mus (a card game from the Basque Country in Spain that has been played since the 1740s). A round is divided into three phases:

 1. Hand-building Phase
Players build their hands to obtain the most advantageous combination of cards.
 2. Betting Phase
Players make bets based on the strength of the cards in their hands, such as the number of Queens or Jesters, pairs or trios of cards, or the total value of the cards.
 3. Point Resolution Phase
Reveal all cards and calculate points.

After multiple rounds, the first player to reach 31 points wins.

On a player's turn during the hand-building phase, they can take one of four actions:

 • Swap one card from your hand for the top card of your deck
 • Declare "no exchanges" to block other players from exchanging cards
 • Place the card face up or face down on the table (if you place the card face up, an action may be triggered)
 • Pass

Cards have various special effects. For example, the Jester negates any "no exchange" declarations made by other players, the Peasant forces players to turn a card face up and use its effect, the Assassin removes cards that have been placed on the table, the Court Lady forces face-down cards to be revealed, the Herald allows players to see the top card of the deck, and the Knight forces players to exchange cards in their hand.

Keen observation and clever bluffing are key: even if you don't have the best hand, you can fool other players into thinking you have a stronger hand.
